You wouldn’t know it now but my beautiful vanity was one of the absolute hardest parts of this farmhouse to design! I really struggled with this area. It is a small setback area in the bathroom. Right next to it is the toilet room so this space is as deep as the toilet room but relatively small in width to get all a girl wants in her bathroom vanity. Gary’s side is long and spacious which isn’t important to him, but I just couldn’t get out of my brain how cute this little nook would be all dressed up! So I configured where the sink and my sit down makeup counter would be. Many, many, many times! I don’t think I can put my makeup on or do my hair if I am not seated. That has proven to be true on several hotel trips where I had to rearrange the furniture so I could sit at a mirror! The sitting area is important! And well, the sink is essential! But where does a woman put all her stuff! So my cabinet designer gave the idea of this wall to floor cabinets. I was very skeptical because we had to pull out the vanity top to give space to the large cabinets behind the mirrors. They are 24 inches deep! That gave me more than ample room for all my toiletries, plus under the sink space and storage drawer. The night before the installers were to put in the cabinets I had talked myself out of the design. I just couldn’t quite picture it in my head and I felt I was giving up to much space bringing the whole cabinets forward. I thought I’m just going to have to eat the cost of this whole thing and start over! Luckily my cabinet designer came in and brought a few pieces with him to reassure me that this was going to be a good move. It certainly was! It is still a bit smaller area than I had hoped for when it was on paper but it is more than ample and user friendly! I was also very apprehensive about making my vanity cabinets yellow and my husband’s dark stained. Are you really allowed to do that?……..I kept asking myself. And I really did want to do that……so I did and I love it!

Even the floor was a challenge! I was envisioning this sweet tile rug pattern on floor. When I showed up at the house and walked in the bathroom the sweet rug was placed the wrong way! Mind you, the cabinets weren’t in yet and who knew what it was going to look like? Certainly not the tile guys! That little rug was going to have to come out! Once I got it out, I realized that  where the tile rug was left no room to have an actual cozy cotton rug on the floor in front of the sink. What was I thinking! The mistake was a blessing in disguise! There is not a tile rug but there is a cozy coral cotton rug that I love to stand on!

Trouble in the details even flowed down to the backsplash. We put the same granite backsplash on the wall only to discover that if the backsplash was on the vanity drawers on the counter wouldn’t open. Well scratch the granite and we can put the brown wood look tile around. And we did…….and it looked terrible……and we scraped it off! Luckily it was quick enough there was no drywall damage.

I have been anxious to finally feel totally comfortable in my very cute and feminine space but I had been lacking a chair and curtains. I finally dug in and got the curtains made. Pretty simple straight stitching with a tension rod. I bought this old chair from Goodwill and refinished it and recovered the seat of the chair in the same fabric that I made the curtains out of. I am love with the whispy colorful bird and flower pattern from Hobby Lobby!

The light fixtures are a fun combination of crystal lights and clear different glass jar lights from Lowe’s Home Improvement Store. I have loved those light fixtures every time I saw them! The crytal cabinet nobs came from an online store.

Even when the going gets tough and you doubt yourself, mistakes are made and it just doesn’t seem like its all coming together, remember to stick to your vision! It does take some trial and error but sometimes that is the only way to bring all your design elements together. I absolutely love my colorful, cozy space that I spend a lot of time in every day! I’m glad my builder was patient and my cabinet designer was confident! I’m so thankful it all came together beautifully!

Thanks for spending time at Sweet Flower Home!
