Prom season has fallen upon us once again. Although I am in college these days and Prom season doesn’t really apply to me anymore it brings back memories.  I’d like to offer a little advice on the blog to all of you High School Prom attendees.  I’m usually telling you about colors, prints, and booties, and that’s what I’m most comfortable writing to you about TRUST me. But here’s a little more personal blog from me, in letter form to High School me. A letter I would have liked to read back then. Because on top of all the memories I have, the most prominent is the pressure. Hopefully I can advise anyone reading that is attending their prom soon to focus less on the “prom pressures” and more on just having fun the way you want to.

Dear Sierra,

It’s me Sierra. I know, weird, right. Anyways, we’re twenty now! Guess what, you’re about to get really excited…..we actually moved to Texas. Right now you are DYING to get out of your hometown I know. You really think you want to live and go to school in Texas and it’s going to happen, but in due time. You’re going to go to junior college in Arizona first….no do not put this letter down! It’s happening, and as much as you’re going to hate to admit it, it’s gonna help you. Then you’ll be ready to move with the whole family to Texas! Yep, they come too, actually when it comes time to move you’re not really going to want to anymore. You’re okay though. But that’s a whole other letter.  You are about to go to Senior Prom, and you’re feeling a little down on yourself. You didn’t get asked in a big extravagant way and you’re totally freaked out, but you are not going to let anyone know on the outside….. you’re fine. You are Sierra, you have it all together, you’re Class President for crying out loud! It’s okay though because I know how you feel. I am you remember. Well I’m here to tell you, in the end none of it mattered. Also I want to remind you of when you did get asked in a super cute way, and we both know you didn’t end up love having a date. You had way more fun every time you went with a group. That’s what matters. The memories you have. So choose the dress, the funky jewels and whatever makes you uniquely you. In a little bit you’ll find out that all those uniquely you choices will get you some amazing opportunities, and other people even like it!  Plus you leave prom early to see “The Longest Ride” because it was pretty boring, so take the pressure off yourself and enjoy it! You ONLY get this once….that is the one true statement about high school. Contrary to what you think, you are going to have a lot greater moments than prom.

Love,

You.
