Once upon a time in a land not too far away, way down in Texas lived two gypsies that you could even watch on TV! They blogged and they made clothes, and made lots of things, and even inspired some style into Sierra Rae!
Okay so I’m not Mother Goose, but there had to be a little magic spun into this blog because it’s not everyday you meet the Junk Gypsies! That’s right, yours truly got just a few minutes to hang with the girls that really started it all for me. Amie and Jolie Sikes. This year I went back to Vegas for the first time since my Dad went to his last National Finals Rodeo as a calf roper…. twelve years or so ago. I was excited to see how Cowboy Christmas had changed. I had a lot of great memories hanging out there for probably more than half of the full ten day stint while he signed autographs. When I found out the Junk Gypsies were going to be there the same day I was so excited! Most people might have been excited for all the cowboys, but I see them everyday. I was ready for the Gypsies.
If you aren’t familiar with the Junk Gypsy brand I’ll fill you in a little! Junk Gypsy was a blog….bloggers just like me. But they slowly turned into a brand, their specialty of course being in home decor “gypsyfing” old antiques and “junk”, making it the most fabulous thing you’ve ever seen. They also have clothes, jewelry accessories, a whole online boutique. Which is where I come in, I first discovered Junk Gypsy as a clothing brand. It was probably about four or five years ago, I don’t really remember how I stumbled upon them but I did. The first items I ever bought were from a cyber Monday sale. A sweatshirt with floral print and a mason jar, that I still wear to this day, the Annie Oakley pistol necklace, and the Nashville belt and Bohemian Cowgirl cuff as a Christmas gift for my mom. From then on my Junk Gypsy collection just grew, so did Mom’s as they became my go to gift.
Junk Gypsy has really shaped my style as a person and the fashionista everyone knows these days. I was probably fifteen when I first discovered the Junk Gypsy and at that age you are learning who you are in all ways, but your style is becoming more what you like and what you feel confident in. I had just gotten back into wearing a few “western” things, but the full on cowgirl look just isn’t me, so I never wanted to wear that stuff. “Gypsy” though started to define exactly what I wanted to be style wise. A little hippie, a little boho, still trendy, a little edgy like an old 70’s rock star and just a touch of western flair once in a while. As I followed them more, it wasn’t about just who I was on the outside anymore, they had this brand that was funky, girls who were travelers, and had the cowboy family background I did. They have inspired a lot of my looks, and I now have a style that I’m proud of. Their clothing line is still a favorite go to of mine.
As the Gypsies would say “Welcome to Gypsyville” where I found a piece of myself I had been searching for! You might like it there too! Try it!
