We really want our house to be friend and family “friendly” so it was important to us to have the house accessible for wheelchairs and folks that might be a little challenged with steps. So you can see in these photos that the front door has a gradual slope to it so that there is no threshold from the porch to the main floor of the house. The back porches are also sloped the same way. This means it will be easy to access the porches without having to add a portable ramp up to the door ways. Along the back wall of the house there are a wall of french doors, so the whole courtyard has a slope to it. The nice thing about this is that they are so gradual it isn’t something you will stumble over or looks like an afterthought! There are features throughout the house that I will show you that are driven by the same wheelchair friendly goals.
These are the small things you can do to show hospitality to those visiting your home! What is a small thing that you have done in your home to welcome those who visit that need a little extra help?
Thanks for stopping by!
