This is my birthday present from my husband! He is a really great husband. From the time that I was a young teenager until this weekend I’ve always wanted a Corvette. So Gary got me one! The only hiccup in the scenario is that I always wanted a Yellow Corvette. He got me a red one…….and let me explain when I say “he got me a red Corvette” I really mean he actually rented me one for the weekend! And he actually tried to find me a yellow one with no success. So NO, I do NOT own a Corvette!

So now that you have the real story, let me tell you how much fun we all had with the Little Red Corvette! It was a big surprise and by the time I made it out to the driveway all the little grandchildren were clamoring to get in it. Remember, there are a lot of them, even though they’re little, so I had to claw my way into the driver’s seat. They are very small cars with one grandma and eight grandchildren. But we all got in for a quick snapshot. After we cleared out the kids Gary went with me for my first spin around the farm! We have paved roads on the perimeter so it was nice. Wow! It goes from 0 to 60 really fast!!!! I’m not sure how fast it goes after that……did I happen to mention I really don’t like driving, or driving fast, or driving with other people, or driving at all?

All eight grandkids and me!

I am the furthest thing from a daredevil. I am not a risk taker. I don’t like to gamble on anything. I like my feet on the ground and am aware of my surroundings. I could be the chief of any safety patrol I was placed on. So my birthday present was quite a challenge for me to leave a little bit of my desire for controlling my circumstances behind. When Gary and I were driving on the freeway I was praying that a big Ram Tough Truck wouldn’t get in my lane over the top of me, or that a semi truck wouldn’t suck me under him. I have only seen a couple of the Fast and Furious movies so I don’t think my driving skills are up to par for those kinds of things! But we made it safely to our destination and back.

I also discovered that your friends and family like you better when you have a Little Red Corvette! The kids all came by and took turns driving around in it. My brother took it out for a spin. My sister and I met our girls at a local resort for my birthday and her and I drove it there! It was kind of fun to valet the tiny little speedster. I valeted it everywhere we went. They always parked it in the front. Why does it take them so long to find my big SUV when I valet it? My 14 year old nephew loved his ride. I asked him if he wanted to get ice cream so we could take a drive. He said sure but wouldn’t let me drive through McDonald’s. He said we need to go to the more upscale Culver’s! My niece Sierra Rae already posted here ride in the Little Red Corvette with the song playing in the background. I’m not social media savvy enough to figure that out! Even the foreman of our farm brought his wife over for a spin. She was a reluctant passenger but they came back all smiles!

Gary and I drove across town to a college women’s basketball game to watch one of my former high school player’s game. When we were walking back to the Corvette my friendly husband starts talking to a guy that was at the game also. We saw that he had a relative on the same team as my player. It turns out it was Casey Mears……a real live professional race car driver! I was to chicken to ask him to take me for a spin in my Little Red Corvette!

So I think I learned a couple of things from my Little Red Corvette birthday experience. I no longer want a yellow Corvette or a red one. It is a lot of fun, but I don’t think it fits my lifestyle. I like my SUV full of junk and kids everywhere I go. I had to worry about it a lot…….hope no one steals it, don’t want it to get dirty, did I park it in the right place, is someone going to run over me because I’m so little they can’t see me, did that police officer see me and how fast was I going? That’s a lot of pressure for such a little car!

I also learned that some times you just have to trust the Lord and have some fun. I might have driven a hair over the speed limit on several occasions! Did I tell you how fast it goes fast when you stomp on the gas?!!! I could have easily talked myself out of ever driving it all because it certainly is legit fast car! I’m thankful I didn’t.

The best thing I learned though, is what a great guy my husband is for giving us all a terrific birthday weekend. We had tons of food, laughter, chaos, a little bit of sleep and lots of great memories of the birthday weekend with The Little Red Corvette!

Gary and I and The Little Red Corvette!

Thanks for stopping by……….Vroooooommmmm!!!!!
