Happy Mother’s Day! Yes for those of you that it sneaks up on here is your reminder…….May 13, 2018 is the day.
Sierra Rae asked me to guest blog for her so I had to give some thought to what I could write about. Then she told me that on her blog Hi Sierra she likes to appeal to the millennial crowd. Then the thought came to me that I am a mother of millennials so what are some great ideas for all of you to give to your mothers for Mother’s Day. Since I’m an “older gal” okay… the tail end of the boomers, I figured maybe I can help you ladies share this blog with your kids! If we’re lucky we might have some creative children this year!
I have very well intentioned millennial children. They are all married to wonderful people, have cute babies themselves, are college educated, and have great jobs, but what will they give me for Mother’s Day? So I thought this little article might be a big help to you millennials wondering about gift giving. The good news is that you can also share this with your Mom, Dad, husband, children because I polled my 3 millennial daughters on what they would like to receive for Mother’s Day!
First we will talk about what kind of gift a millennial might like to give to her mom. I know you gals love to puruse Pinterest and some of you may even make some cute, crafty little items that you find on there. There is plenty of ideas to choose from. But I know a whole lot of you are looking for something that maybe isn’t quite so time consuming. So I put a few ideas together for you!
Sitting down and sharing a meal together is always a win for a Mom! Now take it a step further and actually make a meal together. It could be fun to order a meal delivery kit, so no one has to take the time to shop, and make a meal together. According to the website www.Top10bestmealdelivery.com the Top 5 Meal Delivery services are 1. Home Chef 2. Sun Basket 3. Hello Fresh 4. Plated 5. Blue Apron. This was an excellent site to see which of these companies would fit your needs the best. They are reasonably priced and have many food options. This idea will fit either category of Millennial Mom or Boomer Mom! I had already thought it would be fun to do this when the girls all suggested that they would like to be given this as a gift for themselves!
The next idea is an online option for you Millennials to order from right after you read this article wherever you are! The website is www.uncommongoods.com. There are many items and price ranges including many customizable items but a couple of them that I liked best are the journal My Life Story – So Far for $30 which is a cloth bound journal that contains thought-provoking prompts to help you journal a personal memoir. I also like the Tea Drop Sampler for $34.00 which comes in a beautiful little wooden box and has little shapes of blended tea, sugar and aromatic spices melded into cute little shapes! Just drop them into a cup of hot water and savor the moment!
And who could think of gift giving without thinking of Etsy! There are plenty of ideas here too but to save you hours of looking I found a pretty little set of pears that say Love You Mom. They are tiny and a soft creamy color and will fit any décor. The Etsy shop SkyeArt is where I found them and they are called 3 Love You Mom Pears.
Now this is a little pricey of all the picks, but for you girls with a little extra cash to spend on mom it is a great site. www.knackshops.com has some wonderful gift basket ideas. You can actually create your own basket with the products that they have. I loved this idea because it is totally customizable to your Mom! There are spa, chocolate, mindful coloring, even s’mores gift box collections! There lots of good ideas here!
Okay…..so I hear you. Not much time and not much money but a whole lot of love for Mom. I have an idea just for you…..actually several! First is the cutest ever Little Wrapped Bouquets. Head down to your local grocery store and buy a small bouquet of flowers. Take them apart and separate several flowers (at least 3) with a piece of the greenery. Then wrap a piece of tissue paper around it first, then wrap with a piece of decorative paper ( you can print out a pattern on your computer, use wrapping paper, a magazine or book page, or even a newspaper) tie it with a string and you have the cutest little bouquet! It will make several depending on how big your original bunch of flowers is. You can also do this same thing with a cloth napkin or piece of scrap fabric with a beautiful ribbon. This makes such a sweet little gift. Attach a little hand written tag or note and Mom will swoon over it!
The other budget and time friendly idea is to simply make a fun little two minute video on your phone. This is a great one if you live far away from your Mom. I guarantee that she will save it on her phone. Make some little signs or props for the video and tell her some things like……you make me laugh when……you make me feel loved when…..my favorite memories of you Mom are when…..Mom is the best at….. You get the idea! Have fun with that!
Now for you Millennial Moms here’s what I’m hearing you would like. The resounding winner was anything that pampers Mom. The always popular pedicure, facial, massage or an outright spa day was at the top of the list! Remember Grandma, you will probably have to babysit those cute grandkids for these!
The next request was for personalized jewelry with the kids initials, names or birthstones on them. There are many websites that offer up these options including the several I mention above.
One of my favorite gifts to give a new or young mom is a framed picture of the kids. Often they have all those pictures in their phones and none in a frame on the shelf or wall!
Happy Mother’s Day to all of you moms! Please remember those women in your life who have been special to you too and maybe do one of these nice things for them also! It is always the right time to be a blessing to someone in your life!
Enjoy the day,
Carrie
