Flooring can be fun! Lots of fun! It can also be fabulous! I think that I have the perfect combination of fun and fabulous! I like to give each room of the house it’s own identity and character. Each room has a specific function which lends itself to it’s character. Flooring is a place that can really create your room’s identity! Flooring has to be functional for the room and your lifestyle in that room. I have to admit that I really struggled with the choice of real hardwood or ceramic “wood look” tile. Well the wood look tile won out! I know……what would Chip and Jo say! Well Carrie has to live on a farm in Arizona in the dirt. Yes we have lots of powdery dirt that floats over from the beloved roping arena next door and from the surrounding farm fields. Our family is also very rough and tumble in our house! We move furniture A LOT and we can quite often have footballs, basketballs, race cars, tricycles, dogs, and LOTS of people on my floors. I just couldn’t be trusted to take of real wood. That is a tough admission, but true. I am not very good at following all the instructions that come with the care of wood floors. That’s why this sturdy beautiful brown tile is going into the majority of the house!
On the brown wood tiles we aligned them north and south so that when you walk in the house you see the long lines of the tile go right through the room. All the brown tiles run that way except in one place. That is where you see in the picture that the tile right in front of the bay of french doors runs east and west. This area is a designated walking path from one end of the house to the other. When you look down at the floor you clearly see the difference in the path that you would walk. It will be separated by a subtle but different tile design strip on the edge of the living room floor.
There are a few places that you can make a very different statement with your tile and the bathroom is one of them. Bathrooms are small areas that can be a great place to go out of your decorating box! They are easy to create because they don’t take a lot of supplies! So you can go with a little more expensive or fun tile that you wouldn’t put into a large space. The gray tiles of the guest bathroom was that place for me. Each of the tiles has a muted or “well worn” look to it in a different pattern. I used the floors tiles to make a statement strip up the wall of the shower to really tie it all together. The subway tile is just classic and clean to compliment the fun gray tile!
The powder room is a tiny little Mexican paradise! It has the “white washed wood” ceramic tile in it! I couldn’t be more in love! It has a custom made white vanity with a mexican clay sink, white shiplap and the cutest little flower chandelier from my childhood room! I can’t wait to show you this little room when it is finished!
The last and most crazy of the different tiles is the grandkids room! It is the fun and funky tile that is very hard to describe! It is 8 different flower/geometric patterns in a color I can’t quite describe. It can look like gray, or tannish….maybe brown and on occasion faded green! That is quite the pattern on the floor! It is in the whole room including the bathroom and closet. I felt like I needed to just go for it and not try to match something else in the space. I figure that pattern can hide a whole lot of grandkid mess in that room! I will say it is going to be a challenge to decorate around it! So stay tuned on that one!
Let me assure you that there are more pictures to come when the floors are completely finished and clean!! I keep sweeping and all the work in the house keeps getting them dirty again!
The farmhouse is almost done and I’m hoping to catch you up on the progress! Thanks for stopping by!
