The Big Beams are up!  Wow!  They were awesome just sitting on the ground and now I love them even more up in the farmhouse!  They were such a work of art by the framers.  These guys cut these big beams just the right size, sanded the edges and hoisted them up 20 feet in the air!  Each of the supporting beams that are vertical in the house took 3 men to push upright to hold the bigger horizontal beams in place.  The Big Daddy Beam (I like to call it that) was lifted with three lift genies that the men crank by hand to slowly lift the beam up.  They scurried up the ladders and scaffolding to guide and direct the beam.  Once it is set in place they nail and screw everything into place.  I stayed very far back as I snapped pictures.  I had in my mind which way I was running if gravity took over at a moments notice.  Luckily all went very smoothly!  This crew has just been so professional and has so much experience that they just take each step one at a time until it is accomplished!

I took pictures of the grand boys on the beams so they can look back when they’re teenagers and say we actually sat on those big beams!  We will also be able to tell how much they have grown over the years! It is a fun memento to have!

I love the fact that someday I’ll be sitting in the family room with the family or making dinner in the kitchen and I can look at those beams and remember all the work it took to put them up!  I will be grateful to the framing crew for doing a such a great job and keep us safe and cozy underneath them.  I will also be amazed at the big trees it took to grow and harvest and the hands that touched these big beams to get them to me!  As an onion farmer I’m always telling the story of what a big life a little onion transplant really has and encourage people to really be grateful and understand where their food comes from. (That’s a blog for another day!) So I want to be thankful for the Big Beams in the new Farmhouse!

Thanks for stopping by Sweet Flower Home!  Come back and visit again!  I hope you are blessed today!
